Playa Pity Party

Are you one of the poor unfortunate souls not going to Burning Man? Awwwww. Too bad. It sounds like you need a Playa Pity Party. You don't need the dry desert heat, sandstorms, and 70,000 of your closest friends that you've never met to practice radical self expression. Now you can do it at home. Or with us for that matter. Come burn things in solidarity with our comrades in Black Rock City.

People actually going to the big BM should invite all their friends who aren't.

We have Texas CrabHash Campgrounds, the tentative site for the Houston Regional Burn, reserved for the weekend. You should join us. We will even welcome you home with untrained volunteer greeters, make sure there are artsy craft things to do, make you sign waivers, and frivolously burn meaningful things. And you won't even need to help set up the Yee-Saw. Yay!

We will be exerting lots of energy into making this event as pity worthy as it can possibly be. You are encouraged to help out. Do you have a partially formed idea for a theme camp? Perfect! Bring some decorations and a pop up. Somebody invite the Dick Joke camp. Do you have little to no construction skills? Great! Help us build the effigy. Do you have no desire to do anything but ogle at strange people in an intoxicated stupor? No problem! Bring enough to share.

But what if I want to bring out the big guns and dazzle everyone with my theme camp, construction skills, cooking, dick jokes, musical prowess, decorations and ideas? Well... I guess we can let you do that too.

Other FAQ:

What about theme camps, generators, RVs, mutant vehicles, naked people and camping?

Yes. All of those are welcome.

What do I bring?

Anything you need plus more to share. Some suggestions: Water, food, ice, booze, tent, firewood... and trash bags. This is a leave no trace event. Please pick up after yourself.

Will you have bathrooms and showers?

Yes.

What theme camps and activities will be there?

We will have a pitiful effigy and plenty of half ass theme camps that pale in comparison to the real deal. Here is a partial list:

- southmorehouse presents - a sound camp with an open mic, DJs, and bands

- Bar WhatchouGott - a you fill it full service bar supplied by the immediate community. Bring liquor, beer, and/or mixers to participate

- Smack Yo Grill - if you bring it we will slap it on till it's cooked

- Camp Peacock and Sacred Sex Temple - BDSM

- Town Center - because checking in should always be fun

- Faerie Walk - a dimly lit hike through the forest for you to hang weird things and call it art

- the Pond - swimming, lounging, canoeing and kayaks welcome

- La Playa - an actual beach where we will burn things

- Electric Avenue - a place to charge all your chargeable things

- Paint Fingering! - paints and body paints. maybe bacon.

- Homodynamic Beer Wagon Train - follow the guy with the beer wagon

- the WEE-Saw

- Who needs the Sound Dome when you have the Sound Shed?

- Meditation Deathmatch Unplugged

- Camp Ring the Bell and Roll in Dirt

- Dignity Potion Hunt

- The Royal Newshound Plunderbund

- H4 Sunday Trail hosted by CSI

Can I participate in one of these theme camps or bring my own?

Yes. Feel free to bring your half baked ideas and cardboard signs. Anyone who wants to participate in one of the aforementioned or has a loose idea for a theme camp should let us know. We will post it here and give you great placement.

How much does this cost?

Add up everything it would cost you to go to Burning Man (ticket, food, transportation, etc) and only spend 1% of that on this. We suggest 15- 20$ but you are more than welcome to give us more.

Where does this money go?

Proceeds from this gathering will go to southmorehouse presents (a local arts promotional org), Texas CrabHash Campground infrastructure, and the starter fund to make an actual Regional Burn in the Spring.
